Hop Into the World of Kangaroos

Strong, agile, and instantly recognisable, kangaroos are arguably Australia’s most iconic animal. With powerful hind legs, a long balancing tail, and the ability to leap more than three metres in a single bound, they’re a true wonder of the animal kingdom.

In Victoria, kangaroos can often be spotted in bushland reserves and even grazing on golf courses at dusk. But nothing compares to a dedicated kangaroo experience where you can meet these incredible animals up close and learn their story.

Meet Victoria’s Kangaroo Locals

In Victoria, the Eastern Grey Kangaroo is the star of the show. You’ll often find them hanging out in mobs, bouncing across open spaces with that unmistakable hop. Unlike any other large animal on earth, kangaroos don’t walk; they bound, using their muscular tails like a built-in fifth limb for balance and momentum. It’s a movement that has to be seen up close to be believed.

But kangaroos aren’t just fascinating to watch: they’re nature’s lawnmowers, keeping our grasslands in check and helping ecosystems thrive. And of course, they’re proudly stamped on our coat of arms and coins, representing the spirit of Australia itself.

Up Close and Personal: A Kangaroo Experience

At Wild Action, we bring the Australian bush to you. Whether it’s for schools, community events, or private groups, our kangaroo encounters create memories that last a lifetime. Here are some ways that you can say hello to our kangaroos:

School Incursions

Bring Australia’s most iconic animal into the classroom. A Wild Action kangaroo encounter gives students the chance to meet a live kangaroo, ask questions, and connect classroom learning to the real world. These sessions support the Victorian Curriculum with themes in science, environment, and culture.

To ensure every child has a meaningful kangaroo experience, group sizes are limited to a maximum of 30 students per session. This keeps the workshop interactive, engaging, and safe for both children and animals. For larger groups, multiple sessions can easily be arranged on the same day. Wild Action places animal welfare at the heart of everything we do, which is why our encounters are carefully managed to be respectful and stress-free.

Community Events & Parties

Looking for something unforgettable? A kangaroo experience at a festival, community day, or birthday party always draws a crowd. Our wildlife handlers share fun facts while guests enjoy a rare chance to interact with kangaroos in a safe and respectful way.

Aged Care Visits

Animal interactions can be incredibly enriching for older Australians. A gentle kangaroo encounter brings joy, reduces stress, and sparks conversation. Our team ensures these visits are calm, engaging, and tailored to aged care residents.

What You’ll Discover in a Kangaroo Experience

Every Wild Action kangaroo experience is designed to spark curiosity, mixing hands-on interaction with fascinating insights that suit audiences of all ages. From their habitats to their quirky adaptations, here’s what your group will uncover:

  • Habitats & Environments: From deserts and rainforests to wetlands and woodlands, we explore how Australian kangaroos adapt to their environments
  • Food Chains & Interrelationships: What do kangaroos eat? Who preys on them? How do they affect plant life? Participants are guided through predator-prey relationships and food webs to understand the ripple effect one species can have across an entire ecosystem.
  • Human Impact & Conservation: We discuss the importance of caring for wildlife, understanding threats such as habitat loss and climate change, and how everyday Aussies can play a role in protecting native species.
  • Fun Facts & Curiosities: Did you know kangaroos can’t move backwards? Or that a female kangaroo can pause her pregnancy until conditions are right? These quirky facts keep participants engaged and spark curiosity long after the encounter is over.
